About SimpleBreath
SimpleBreath is written and maintained by reboot mindful.
Who writes this
I have spent about ten years reading Daoist thought and five years practising it daily. This site holds what survived that practice — not the parts that sound the most impressive.
Why this site exists
Daoism reaches the public wrapped in two layers. One is mystification — sold as fortune-telling, secret technique, or a personality, the further from the body the better. The other is a wall: dense classical Chinese, teachers behind paywalls, and the assumption that you must put in years before you are allowed to begin.
Both keep people out. SimpleBreath tries the opposite: shrink the method to its smallest form, say it plainly, and make it something a person can start today and still be doing in years.
How the writing is made
Each note pairs a classical source — Zhuangzi, Ge Hong, the Suwen — with ordinary physiology: the diaphragm, the vagus nerve, the balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic. Where the two do not agree, the note says so.
What this is not
This is practice support — not medical care, diagnosis, or psychotherapy. Depression, insomnia, anxiety, lung disease and weight are discussed here as bodily signals and practice themes. If you need clinical help, see a licensed clinician.
Where to start
- The notes — long-form writing on sleep, anxiety, digestion and circulation.
- Practice guide — how a session actually runs.
- Home — the method itself.
